The 14 Roseate Spoonbills on Dewees are Causing a Stir

The 14 Roseate Spoonbills seen on Dewees Island on July 8, 2009 have created some excitement. The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has asked Dewees’s Environmental Program Director, Lori Sheridan Wilson, to determine if they are 1st year, 2nd year, or adult birds.  If you have any photos from this summer that show the birds from the side please send them to lori@deweesislandpoa.com.  Thank you.

Dewees ferry Captain Al Kemp has also seen as many as 7 spoonbills along the Intracoastal Waterway near mile marker 111.  No telling if the 7 are the same birds in a different location or an additional 7.

Here’s a picture of 8 of the birds as seen from Old House Lane, not far from the Landings Building!
