"Nature Photography is all about the light" Lisa Dubois

The current art exhibit at the Huyler house is a lovely collection of island landscapes taken by Lisa Dubois.  Although many of these works are spoken for, it’s worth checking out if you are looking for some art pieces: proceeds benefit the Dewees Island Conservancy.  There will be a new exhibit for Labor Day, so come enjoy these pieces while you can.

This show opened on June 26th, with Lisa there to talk about her work and her process. She began by explaining that nature photography is all about the light: and here in the lowcountry the sky is really important because the land is so flat with few contours and the skies can add so much drama to photos.

Nature as Healing

Many of Lisa’s photos, including some she shot here on Dewees, grace the halls of MUSC’s cancer center and provide serene backdrops for those in stressful situations.  She showed us photos of her work in study carrels and treatment rooms.

One of a Kind

When Lisa does a photo shoot, she only prints ONE of each image, and then that image is retired.  That means everyone who buys a piece gets a unique art piece.  We selected two for the permanent art in the bookshelves at Huyler House, and it’s fun to think about them being one-of-a-kind pieces.  If you’re not local, or you can’t get to the show, Lisa has a Dewees Gallery on Flickr.  You can scroll through that here, and if you see something you like, you can contact her to purchase one for yourself.  (lisabram35@aol.com)

Dewees Art Exhibit 2026

There are still a few pieces on the walls that aren’t spoken for: please come see if one might be perfect in your space.
