It’s that time of year: our turtles are coming ashore to lay their eggs on the beaches. Every morning, volunteers on the beach walk the high tide line to look for turtle eggs as part of a huge citizen science effort. Visitors are welcome to participate: On Wednesdays the sea turtle interns leave from Osprey Walk, and you are welcome to join them. They will also be doing regular turtle education programs. If you are a trained walker, and you have registered with Gary and signed a DNR waiver, you can walk your own shift. (Bonus: if you find a nest, the turtle gets named after you.) We’ll try to keep our nest log up to date on the tab above marked Turtles. To sign up (or change a sign-up) click on over to Sign-up Genius. (Hint: there are still spots for this weekend.)

Here is an aerial video of the beach and the turtle team taken last summer by Yonder Blue Films, as well as some hatchling footage taken by our interns two years ago.
And Here is the training video (eventually to be re-cut with the new aerial footage) you can watch to know what to do:

Loved the turtle education video!
Awww, what a cute little girl. Looks just like Anna Keels Stauffer, Keelsie.
