Catching the Dewees Island Ferry: Videos to share

There have been some changes and updates to the Dewees Island ferry operations this year, and residents and guests should all feel free to share this page (and Video links) with anyone coming to the island. We’re hoping to make the process of planning and catching the Dewees Island Ferry a little easier.

Dewees now has two ferries, which allows us to operate in the most cost effective way possible. Now, the captain determines which ferry to use depending on the number of people and amount of luggage needing transportation. For this reason, you will want to prepare to load the ferry from the IOP side EARLY, so get there AT LEAST 15 minutes ahead of time to prepare your luggage for boarding and allow the captain to see how many people will be boarding.

When leaving Dewees, YOU MUST call the ferry between the time it leaves the Dewees dock at 30 minutes after the hour and the time it arrives at the IOP dock to request pick up on the next run from Dewees Island. You must report how many people will be riding and estimate the number of carts you will use for luggage. Special needs also must be reported: such as the number of dogs, room for wheelchairs and bicycles. Those who have called for reservations take priority for seats and luggage, whether or not they are owners.

While you are sharing information, here is a video about packing for the island:

And here is a general overview:

You can even share all three videos with your guests as a playlist on our Youtube channel.
