New residents double the number of island children going back to school

A hearty welcome to Liz and Pat O’Leary, who moved onto Dewees Island this month with their family of 5. Liz and Pat are full-time on the island, and their children attend schools in Mount Pleasant. So this morning’s first-day-of-school ferry had six children on it, effectively doubling the school-age population of the island. As you can see from the photos, it’s early when the ferry leaves at 6:30. This morning we were treated to the sun rising in the east as the full moon set in the west. Not a bad way to get to school!

I love all the youthful energy around the island. These young people represent a grand promise for the future of Dewees!!

Love your moon shot. I was up at 4 am shooting a night time lapse then at 6:30 got a similar shot at Big Bend. Could have slept in!
