Captain Al Kemp worked on the Dewees Island ferry for six years, and we will miss him. Generally, Al is a man of few words, but when he said something, it was worth listening to. His last day on the ferry was December 20th, and we gathered as a community to thank him for his years of service. Al has led ecotours, and often pointed out interesting wildlife along the ferry route, from bioluminescence to loons to this Florida Horse Conch feeding near the ferry dock. He is an avid crossword puzzle afficionado, and knew the areas of expertise of regular riders: who was familiar with country music, greek mythology, or biblical references. The ladies at coffee assembled a basket of snacks and goodies for Al, from potato sticks to crossword puzzles to pencils, and the community said goodbye at a lunch at Morgan Creek Grill.
