The POA has made several changes to the website lately. It needed some improvements. Unfortunately, the changes don’t seem to be an improvement.
One of the most important features of the website for community members is the address book — how do I get in touch with so and so?
In the old days, the steps looked like this:
1. go to DeweesIslandPOA.org
2. Login
3. Click Contacts pull down menu
4. Click Owners Directory submenu
5. Go to a page the allows you to select owners alphabetically by last name, click link. Alternatively, you could click on a spreadsheet listing owners contact information.
6. See a list from A-Z, click the letter you want, say “F” for “Fairchild”
7. See a list of everyone who’s last name starts with “F”, scroll down to “Judy and Reggie Fairchild”
8. Click on “Judy and Reggie Fairchild”.
9. See contact information, including phone numbers and email addresses.
Editor’s Note: I’m creating this list from memory. The site has been changed. You can’t see the old set up any more.
Now, the steps look like this:
1. go to DeweesIslandPOA.org
2. Login
3. Click Contacts pull down menu
4. Click Owners Directory submenu
5. See a single link to a spreadsheet listing owners contact information. Click on the spreadsheet link.
6. See another page with a single link to a spreadsheet listing owners contact information. (This is not a duplicate of number 5, it’s yet another page between you and the information you seek). Click spreadsheet link.
7. Get an operating system pop up asking where you want to download the spreadsheet. Use default setting by clicking okay button.
8. Get an operating system pop up asking what to name the file. Use the existing file name by clicking save button.
9. Get file downloaded pop up from operating system. Select file by double clicking to open it in Excel.
10. Wait for Excel to open, then the spreadsheet to open.
11. Scroll up and down and sideways looking for phone numbers and email addresses. There are none. (If you want people’s primary residence U.S. Mail address, then you’re in business).
12. Click on spreadsheet tabs at the bottom to see if one of the other tabs contains the information you want. Nope. Nothing there. Fail to get the information you’re seeking.
Editors Note: If you’re using mobile device such as an iPhone or Blackberry, there are even more steps or steps that can’t be done.
This is ridiculous. Not only did the changes add steps, they force you to down file that don’t give you the information you’re seeking.
You should be able to get to the island directory in 3 steps or less once your logged in. Preferably 2 steps or less.
