New crabbing, shrimping, fishing and birding docks

Following the removal of the alligator at the crabbing dock, some called for the removal of the crabbing dock.  Instead, adding more crabbing and fishing docks to the impoundment is much more likely to reduce problems with the accidental training of alligators.

The existing crabbing dock is in use nearly every waking hour in the summer.  Alligators get trained to expect food there because it’s always available.  The crabbing dock is crowded and over-fished (even though it produces an amazing bounty).

By offering more dock locations (click to see map with suggested locations), fishing activity on the island would spread out.  It wouldn’t all be concentrated in two locations — the crabbing dock and six pipes.

The new docks would also serve as points of interest, destinations, sunset observation decks, picnic spots, and birding platforms.

In order to avoid one big capital expenditure on docks, the POA might want add the docks slowly over the next few years.
