On Saturday night, June 16th, the Dewees Island Community held an appreciative celebration of all members of our community, particularly those who helped out on the evening of the fire. Firefighters were invited from all participating districts, as well as the group of young men who interrupted their search for a missing friend to help us fight the blaze quickly. In addition, all staff members were invited, and we are truly appreciative of their efforts: both that evening, when they rushed to the island in the dark, and in general. We are thankful for ferry service, emergency services, trash removal, boardwalk repair, environmental programs, and all the other activities that keep us a vibrant connected community.
Van Kinnett and his team provided us with a fabulous lowcountry boil, cooking shrimp, sausage, and potatoes to perfection and a huge crowd of about 150 people. Owners came from near and far, and provided appetizers, desserts, and side dishes. It was a delightful event, and a chance for neighbors to gather over a meal and connect with our staff and friends.

Thanks for keeping us informed with words and pictures.
It was a very nice evening – and a very nice idea well done!
