Eaglet Update; Birding this weekend

As our young eaglet spends more time alone on his platform while his parents hunt for him and themselves, he is getting bigger and bigger. We had a tour group on the island who got to watch a parent feed the youngster, and yesterday we were on the beach when Kathy pointed out an eagle feeding on the far south end. Feathers were everywhere on the beach, even stuck on a jellyfish. Any naturalists out there who want to take a guess as to the prey, I’d love your input… I have a hunch, but please comment with your thoughts. Some of these photos are pixelated… I took them from Ancient Dunes and the bird was south of Huyler House walk.

This Sunday is the Spring Bird Count, and if you are on the island and want to help, please let us know. We’ve seen recent arrivals of Great-Crested flycatchers, Orchard Orioles, Painted Buntings, Indigo Buntings, and more. Call Judy if you want to hang out with us for an hour; bring binocs.
