Aerator in the Impoundment Working again

We are delighted to see that the aerator in the middle of the impoundment is bubbling away.  It has been down for a while, and it is an important tool in maintaining the circulation of the impoundment.  This is the time of year when the heat rises and the dissolved oxygen drops, and sometimes large schools of menhaden scare themselves to death. When they decompose, they use up lots of the remaining dissolved oxygen, which can then affect the larger fish.  Last week, Lori flushed the impoundment by letting water (and a large school of menhaden) out of the first gate and allowing the full moon tide to bring fresh water in.  The newly formed Dewees Island Conservancy is working on a variety of strategies to make the impoundment healthier.
