Clarification on yesterday’s post re Electrical Wires

In yesterday’s post, we linked to an article in the Post and Courier about anglers getting shocked or having their t-tops catch on fire in a creek on the island.  We had heard that it was Velvet Creek, but we now have more information from Kim.

Kim Knight, Island Manager, was able to clarify that the line in question is actually in the south end of the island, in the creek leading to the rice trunk.  SCE&G holds the liability for all lines, and not Dewees or the POA.  Normally, our emergency response team would be notified (and called for assistance) in such an injury, but the newspaper article was the first they had heard of it, and no descriptions of the incidents were broadcast on the emergency channels our Public Safety officers monitor.  According to Kim Knight,

“Sometimes small boats fish in the rice trunk creek but it is unusual for a boat of any size, especially one that carries out riggers that can reach a powerline, to fish in the creek.”
He confirmed that SCE&G is currently discussing possibilities with island management for running lines underground.
We looked on the fishing blog mentioned in the P&C article, but couldn’t find a description of the incident.
