Today’s Post and Courier features an article about boaters being shocked by the power lines in Dewees Inlet. Our understanding is that although the article mentions the power lines which run to Dewees across Dewees Inlet (via the poles at the ends of the island, implying the south end) the accidents actually happened at the North end, at the mouth to Velvet Creek, where the electricity crosses to Capers. Apparently, when anglers bring their boats up Velvet creek in search of bait or the sportfish that hang out at the pipes, they have to be careful not to come up the creek on a really high tide.
Coincidentally, we came over last week on the ferry with a crew from SCE&G, who were investigating the option of sinking the lines under both inlets. We voted a resounding “yes,” which made them chuckle but won’t necessarily translate into underwater power lines.
It is interesting that there is pressure from the general public on the electricity supplier to update their infrastructure.

Judy,
Thanks for the information on the electricutions mentioned in the newspaper.
See you soon
Melinda
