Revolutionary Happy Hour a Success

a tankard in style

Friday night’s Happy Hour was a wonderful example of the joyful spirit of lifelong learning on the island.  Revolutionary War reenactor Bob Boynton gave us information about the uniforms of the Revolutionary war, the accessories, and the accessories and weapons of the time period.

The group gathered at the Landings Building to march the captives off to Jill’s house, where everyone enjoyed a discussion on South Carolina’s role in the Revolutionary war (More battles were fought in South Carolina than in any other state) and what it is like to be a reenactor.  For some, the highlight of the evening was the chance to fire the musket (under supervision.)  There were period appropriate hors douvres featuring sweet potatoes (stay tuned for an interesting piece of art and a story about Francis Marion and some sweet potatoes) and other foods mildly connected to the time period.  We were so inspired by some of the recipes that we may have to put together a Dewees Island events cookbook.  A great time was had by all.

A totally delightful evening! Zany good fun and a fascinating way to be “spoon fed” history from the Charleston area.

Judy, I am puzzled. This is not the picture that Connie brought to my house. This is an interesting one but I have not seen it before.
Thanks for the article. I love the way you keep us informed of island events.
