Earl Leaves Beach in Good Shape, Turtle Nests High and Dry

According to Gary, Earl’s currents and wave actions had a minimal effect on the beach yesterday.  (We’ll add photos and check it out when we get there later today.)  All of our remaining nests are still high and dry, but the water came close to the cages.  When I asked about the sand levels, he estimated that over the summer, we gained about two to three feet of sand.  Earl took about a foot of it away from the end of Gary’s dock, but sent more sand up into what used to be the high part of the dunes.  So our barrier island is functioning just like it is supposed to– with sand moving on and off the beach.

Nest 10 hatched last night; Gary observed 40 hatchling tracks leading to the ocean, with no dead hatchlings or any in the clutches of ghost crabs.
