So, we’ve always wondered what the deal was with the speed limit. Was it deliberately an odd number to catch people’s attention? Why not 15 or 20?
I learned the answer back in may while interviewing Guy Pascal for the Archives Committee.
He remembered that during the development of the island, the developers had determined that 17mph was the fastest speed at which two vehicles could safely pass one another while still having a conversation of more than one sentence apiece.
We love this answer. It reminds us to slow down, not just to be safe or see the scenery, but to remember to chat with your neighbor. A special thanks to Guy for sharing this with us.
