Signs of Fall

There are some sure signs of Autumn on the island– the marsh is turning golden as the Spartina blooms and drops its seeds, creating next year’s grasses. The beautyberry is also setting fruit, and deer are browsing the bright purple berries. The soft purple-pink of the sweetgrass is beginning to peek through the dark green foliage and the goldenrod is beginning to bloom. Humidity is down and it’s a great time to be on the island.
