Impoundment Lowered and then Flooded

This is the first in a series of posts about “The Fish Kill of 2009.”  While some fish, shrimp and other water creatures did die, it looks for now as is a major fish kill that the island has had in some previous years has so far been avoided.  It appears as if the impoundment narrowly escaped.

When we woke up this morning, the Dewees Impoundment was dramatically lower than normal, perhaps 18 to 24 inches lower.  Here’s what it looked like from our deck — notice there are mud flats were there’s normally water.
