This raccoon was not scared of any of us. He investigated the bait bucket and the fish cleaning station while we were right there. You’d think we would have learned. The next day we caught a 22″ fish and while we were catching the next one, the rascal stole our dinner. In a ten minute period while we were on the sand bar, he managed to dump the bucket and drag a 22 inch fish off into the woods. All we found was an upturned bucket and a trail leading away. Let’s hope the fox spotted by Tom and Bo Jenkins decides to take up residence at Six Pipes. We need a predator to keep the raccoons (as well as rats, rabbits, squirrels, etc., in check).

I think this is the same culprit that got my flounder a few weeks ago! He comes from one direction – I get him to go. He circles around and comes out of the bushes to pounce on a freshly caught flounder lying in a tidal pool. Off he goes with it. My dinner soon became his and we settled for pasta that night.

Hey Reggie: What’s bitin this time of year down at Dewees?
I’m just a fisherman in training…so beware my fishing report…
Since Christmas, we’ve caught 8 or 9 Red Drum (Spot Tail Bass) and a couple small flounders. My father-in-law caught a 31 inch, 10+ pound Red Drum and my wife caught a 27 incher at Six Pipes. Since both were over the limit, we released them. My were both in the 20-21 inch range and caught off Moser’s dock. We used finger mullet for bait.
We saw LR Perry and company fishing for Sheepshead off the ferry dock. He was using frozen fiddler crabs since fiddlers aren’t alive this time of year. It was really interesting to watch his technique.
